Rhinoplasty in Albania or the UK
UK private rhinoplasty costs from the NHS and Bookimed against published Albanian prices, plus NHS advice on follow-up and flying after surgery.
Private rhinoplasty in the UK costs more than the published prices for Albania, but the size of the gap depends on which UK source you read, and the cost of travel narrows it. The UK is also where you are most likely to need aftercare if something goes wrong, so follow-up matters as much as the price.
These are published figures, not our survey, which is in progress. See prices in 2026.
What does a private nose job cost in the UK?
The NHS says private nose reshaping in the UK costs roughly £4,000 to £7,000, plus consultations and any follow-up or further surgery. Bookimed, a medical-tourism marketplace, gives a higher comparison figure of £7,000–£12,000 for open rhinoplasty in the UK.
| Source | Price | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| NHS (nose reshaping page) | About £4,000–£7,000 | Plus consultations and follow-up or further surgery; page is undated |
| Bookimed (comparison table) | £7,000–£12,000 | Open rhinoplasty; the page shows two dates, August 2024 and October 2026; a commercial source |
The difference between the two is large. The NHS is a public source with no commercial interest, but its figure is a rough one. Bookimed earns from referrals abroad, so a high UK comparison suits its case. Neither is a survey of UK clinics. Ask UK surgeons for quotes if you are comparing seriously.
What is published for Albania?
Published and reported Albanian prices for primary rhinoplasty run from about €1,800 to €4,500: for example €2,000–3,800 on one Tirana hospital’s own site and €2,500–3,500 on another’s, both undated. See prices in 2026 for each source and its date. Convert euros to pounds at the rate on the day you read this.
Is the saving real once you travel?
The saving is real on published numbers but smaller than the headline gap. Subtract what you add by travelling:
- Return flights for you and, ideally, a companion
- Hotel for the recovery days; see where to stay
- Tests, medication and extras outside the quote; see hidden costs
- A reserve for a return trip or private care at home
- Possible time off work: the NHS says up to 2 weeks after nose reshaping
If the gap on a complete budget is small, the UK option may be worth another look. If it is large, the question becomes whether the Albanian provider meets the standards you would expect at home.
What does the NHS advise about surgery abroad?
The NHS says surgery abroad may cost less but safety standards may be lower, and overseas clinics may not provide follow-up treatment. It advises:
- Before booking, ask what happens if complications arise, where follow-up appointments will be and how easily you could return for further surgery.
- Ask how clinics are regulated and how the rules are enforced, and about the surgeon’s training, professional memberships, years in practice and how many similar procedures they have done.
- Plan for two consultations before surgery, which gives a cooling-off period (usually two weeks in the UK). The NHS says the surgeon should show before and after pictures of their work.
- Be wary of surgery sold as part of a holiday. Meet the surgeon yourself, not only sales staff, and do not pay for a hospital or surgeon you have not seen or met.
- Check what the clinic’s insurance covers; standard travel insurance usually will not cover problems arising from surgery.
Those points are written for the UK reader, and they apply in Albania as much as anywhere. One practical difficulty: the two-consultation, two-week model is hard to follow when the clinic is a flight away. An online consultation can be the first step, but you should still meet the surgeon before the operation day, and ask for time to decide.
What should you know about the operation and recovery?
Whatever the country, the operation and recovery are similar. The NHS says nose reshaping is usually done under general anaesthetic, takes about 1.5 to 3 hours, and usually involves a hospital stay of 1 or 2 nights. A dressing and splint stay on for 7 days, and stitches are usually removed around one week in. Bruising and redness often fade by about 3 weeks, strenuous exercise can usually resume at 4 to 6 weeks, and swelling can take up to 6 months to fully resolve.
So the first week is the part you spend near your surgeon. On flying, the NHS advises avoiding air travel for 7 to 10 days after facial procedures because of the risk of blood clots. See when you can fly after rhinoplasty and rhinoplasty recovery day by day.
What if something goes wrong at home?
If something goes wrong after you return to the UK, you will need a local clinician. For urgent problems, use the UK’s usual urgent and emergency services. For follow-up, ask a UK surgeon in advance whether they would see you, and keep your operative report, photographs and medication list. See problems after you get home and aftercare at home.
In Albania, the ambulance number is 127; 112 works in EU countries.
How do you check the surgeon?
Check the surgeon in the register of the country where they trained and in Albania. For a UK-trained surgeon, that means your home regulator; for others, the register of their home country, plus authorisation to practise in Albania. In Albania, we found no public online register of doctors; the Order of Physicians keeps one, so the check takes a written request. See how to verify a surgeon.

Questions patients ask
How much does a private nose job cost in the UK?
The NHS says roughly £4,000 to £7,000, plus consultations and any follow-up or further surgery. Bookimed, a medical-tourism marketplace, lists £7,000–£12,000 as a UK comparison.
Can I get a nose job on the NHS instead?
Not usually for cosmetic reasons. The NHS says it may be provided if needed to help breathing.
How long should I stay abroad after the operation?
The NHS advises avoiding flying for 7 to 10 days after facial procedures, and your surgeon may advise differently. Plan a stay that includes the first check-up and splint removal.
Will my UK travel insurance cover complications?
The NHS says standard travel insurance usually will not cover problems arising from surgery. Check your policy and the clinic's insurance before you book.
